Work #1
This is a sample from my poem titled 'Routine'. The poem is about my dog, Schroeder. I love my dog so much. He's funny and cute and always likes to come into my room just to stick his humongous head by me and say hi. I chose to share this piece because of the great literary devices that I included into the writing. I really like the personification and similes I used here. "The clear door awaits me, My tail wags anxiously back-and-forth, And I am let outside into the early morning. It is dark, and cool. I feel the wood of the porch under my paws, And then dew and grass wet down my feet, And it feels slightly like a river. I am let back inside the warm house gratefully, After waiting by the door for a few sluggish moments."

Work #2
This is another poem derived from my poetic anthology. I like this poem because it expresses my passion for track. I also love the race that I very thoroughly describe in this poem. I think about track so much and it's still 4 months away. I train every day for track and it's like I can't stop. My motivation to work hard and non-stop strive to be victorious is part of what makes me the successful runner that I am. I love track so much and am so enthusiastic and ready for this spring. This poem also centers around one of my inspirations; her name is Sanya Richards-Ross and she runs the 400m dash at an Olympic level. If I ever run at that level (which I won't), I'll cry whether I get first or eighth. I believe reading my poem would be a very intense and easy-to-visualize experience. |
Work #3This is one of my most recent works. If you click the button, you can view a narrative I just recently wrote about this past winter when I volunteered as a volleyball coach for the Wattle's Park Men's Club at the YMCA. Lots of miniature dramatic events occurred during this time but I do miss it. Missing the first practice, sixth grade girls being girls, and intense talks with parents were all part of this episode of my life.

Work #4One of my favorite parts of high school is the sports; another is watching the sports. I love being part of a student section-- especially at football games. The student section is always so big for football games and this poem captures the experience and perspective of just about everything at a typical high school football game. I chose to upload this poem because I like the structure and short but very descriptive imagery that describes a game well.

Work #5I like this poem I took out of my anthology because of the repetition and variety of grammar techniques that I applied. This poem is about how I feel about humanity has a race, culture, and growing population.
